As of March 31, 2023, it is necessary to link your PAN card with your Aadhaar card. Failure to do so will result in your PAN becoming inoperative.
In a recent tweet by the Income Tax Department, it was stated that as per the IT Act of 1961, all PAN holders, except those exempted, must link their PAN with Aadhaar before 31.3.23. If not linked by 1.4.23, the PAN will become inoperative. The tweet urged people to link their PAN with Aadhaar immediately.
Follow the steps below to check the status of your PAN-Aadhaar link. However, on March 28, 2023, several users have reported that the link to check the Aadhaar-PAN status is not working.
Note that not linking your PAN with Aadhaar carries a penalty of Rs. 1000 until March 31, 2023.
Steps to Check PAN-Aadhaar Link Status:
- Go to the Income Tax e-filing portal using the link: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/

A message will be displayed on successful validation of the link Aadhaar status.
